My Favorite Place to Escape to: Mt. Gretna, PA
My favorite place to go in order to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life and unwind in nature is Mount Gretna, Pennsylvania. Located in southern/central PA, a half-hour drive from Hershey, is the town of Mt. Gretna - a small lake community from the Victorian era that's nestled in the mountains. Hundreds of quaint cottages with wraparound front porches dot the tree-lined streets that wind through the hills covered in chestnut and pine trees. The town is a popular outdoorsy vacation destination, with outdoor restaurants, concerts, shows, shops, a nice beach, and close access to hiking/skiing trails. My grandfather grew up in Mt. Gretna, and my family goes down for a week during the summer every few years. We love spending time outdoors in Mt. Gretna, and taking in all that this historic resort town has to offer.

I enjoyed the photos the most. It reminds me of my summers, my family and I used go to a campground about a half hour from my house. We had a camper and there was a great community, not too big or small. There was a lake with about three islands, and most everyone owned a kayak. I can relate to the enjoyment of the outdoors and quietness during the that time of the year in an area like so. I've never really stayed in a cabin or been to that area, it was always a camper for my family and not too long of a drive. I'm sure living in a cabin is a bit different and in that area. I like how you mentioned your grandfather grew up there and how long the area has been like that. This was a great post that touched old memories from my life.
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are very beautiful and really show what you are talking about. Me and my grandparents would go to a place kind of similar to this somewhere in Vermont a few years back and it was a like a tradition for us to go. My aunt had a lake house at the place we went to, and we would stay with her and my cousins. They lived right across the street from the lake, they had multiple kayaks and tubs to just take on the lake. It was about a 3-hour drive from where they lived at the time. This post reminded me of my family, I think this I also a great post.
